We can get overwhelmed with all the choices of supplies we have to create our cards.

Just take a look at any avid stamper's crafting space.

Stamp sets, card stock, designer papers, dies, punches, ribbons, and containers or drawers of embellishments!

Sometimes, it's nice to get back to the basics of "SIP."

Stamp, Ink, Paper.

Basically, one layer only!

But, one-layer cards are not always the easiest to create.

Again, we look at our crafting supplies and wonder how we can incorporate them all into our card designs creating layers and more layers.

But, let me introduce you to the Faux Tearing Technique, perfect for creating the illusion of layers in a one-layer-only design.

Create the look with torn paper using the Faux Tearing Technique.

Instructions:

1.For the Faux Tearing Technique, you need to create a mask, enabling you to mask off where the stamped images will go.  Simply tear a piece of copy paper into 2 strips.

2. Place the masks on the top and bottom edges of your card base. (yes, card base.  Remember, this is one-layer stamping!) Secure the pieces with washi or painter's tape to keep them from shifting.

3. With a Blending Brush, sponge, or sponge dauber add ink (Petal Pink) to the space between the torn copy paper.  

4.Two-step daisies from Cheerful Daisy.  Stamp solid image using a lighter color.  Over-stamp using a darker color and the detail image. Stamp speckles from Country Birdhouse (Balmy Blue).

5. Remove the masks and stamp greeting (Melon Mambo).

Done!

Stamp Set: Cheerful Daisy, Country Birdhouse

Ink: Petal Pink, Calypso Coral, Fresh Freesia, Gorgeous Grape, Poppy Parade, Old Olive, Balmy Blue, Melon Mambo

Paper: Basic White

Accessories: torn copy paper, washi tape, Blending Brush
